What each option does
- Trim whitespace from each line — removes leading and trailing spaces/tabs from every line.
- Collapse extra spaces & tabs — turns multiple consecutive spaces or tabs into a single space.
- Remove blank lines — deletes every empty line, useful when pasting from PDFs or emails with excessive spacing.
- Remove duplicate lines — keeps only the first occurrence of each line (case-insensitive).
- Strip special characters — removes anything that isn't a letter, number, common punctuation (.,!?'"-), or whitespace.
When to use each combination
For cleaning up text copied from a PDF, try trim + collapse spaces + remove blank lines. For cleaning a scraped list, add remove duplicate lines. For sanitizing text before pasting into a system that doesn't accept special symbols, add strip special characters.

Anything that isn't a letter, number, whitespace, or one of a small set of common punctuation marks (period, comma, exclamation point, question mark, apostrophe, quotation mark, hyphen) is removed when this option is checked.
No — when checked, duplicate line removal treats lines as duplicates regardless of capitalization, keeping only the first occurrence of each unique line.
The default options (trim + collapse spaces) only affect whitespace and are safe for any text. The blank-line, duplicate-line, and special-character options are more aggressive — review the result before using it, especially for content where exact formatting matters.
